What can finance be used for?
Finance can be used for home improvements, purchasing a vehicle or other personal expenses.
It cannot be used for investments, gambling or illegal activities.
How much can I borrow?
The amount you can borrow depends on your individual circumstances, including income, affordability and credit profile.
- Personal loans: typically from £5,000 to £50,000
- Business and asset finance: from £5,000 upwards
How long can I borrow for?
What is the difference between a secured and unsecured loan?
Secured loans: backed by an asset (e.g. property or equipment) and may offer lower interest rates.
Unsecured loans: do not require collateral and are typically based on income and credit profile, often at a higher interest rate.
What do APR and flat rate mean?
APR (Annual Percentage Rate) shows the annual cost of borrowing. It includes interest and certain charges, making it useful for comparing finance options.
Flat rate calculates interest using the original amount borrowed for the full term, even as the outstanding balance reduces.
Because they are calculated differently, a flat rate will usually look lower than the equivalent APR and the two should not be compared directly. When comparing finance, consider the APR, monthly repayments, term, fees and total amount repayable.
How does debt consolidation work, and which debts can be included?
How it works
Debt consolidation combines eligible existing credit commitments into one new loan with one monthly repayment.
- One repayment: Existing eligible borrowing is consolidated into a single loan.
- Secured or unsecured: Options may be available depending on your circumstances.
- The debt remains: Consolidation restructures borrowing; it does not remove the debt.
A longer loan term may reduce monthly repayments but can increase the total amount payable.
Included and excluded debts
Subject to assessment, eligible debts can include:
- Credit cards
- Personal loans
- Overdrafts
- Store cards
- Catalogue accounts
We are not currently able to offer consolidation for:
- Payday loans
- Short-term loans
- Buy Now, Pay Later balances
Information we will need
To review your existing commitments accurately, please provide the following for each debt:
- Credit provider: the bank or finance company name
- Credit agreement reference: the account or agreement number shown on your latest statement or credit agreement
- Monthly repayment: the amount you currently pay
- Supporting evidence: a recent statement or settlement figure showing the up-to-date amount required to settle the account
The usual application and affordability documents will also be required.
How existing debts are repaid
The repayment method will depend on the agreed arrangement. Funds may be paid directly to the relevant credit providers or, in some cases, released to you so that you can settle the balances.
Please continue making your existing repayments until each provider confirms that the balance has been settled. Direct Debits should not be cancelled before confirmation.
Existing accounts
Repaying an outstanding balance does not always close the credit account automatically.
If you would like an account closed, you should contact the relevant bank or credit provider once settlement has been confirmed. The decision to close the account remains yours.
Credit score
No improvement in your credit score can be guaranteed. Taking new borrowing or submitting a full application may initially affect your credit record.
Maintaining repayments and reducing overall debt may help over time, but credit-reference agencies determine your score. Versus cannot predict or guarantee the outcome.
Joint debts
Joint debts can form part of a consolidation application. Both account holders will normally need to join the new application and provide the required information and consent.
In some circumstances, an individual application may be considered. Both account holders remain responsible for the existing joint debt until it has been settled in full.

Bridging Loans
What is a bridging loan?
A bridging loan provides short-term funding where finance is needed before another source of funds becomes available, such as a sale, refinance or longer-term facility.
What can bridging finance be used for?
Bridging finance may be suitable where funding is required quickly or for a defined short period, including property transactions, refinancing, renovation or development projects and other funding requirements.
How long is a bridging loan normally for?
Bridging finance is intended as a short-term solution rather than long-term borrowing. The appropriate term will depend on the transaction and how the loan is expected to be repaid.
How much can I borrow with bridging finance?
Versus Finance typically considers bridging finance requirements from £1 million to £25 million. The amount available will depend on the transaction, security provided, proposed repayment strategy and lender criteria.
Do I need to provide security for a bridging loan?
Bridging finance will normally require suitable security. The type and value of security required will depend on the transaction and individual lender criteria.
Property or assets used as security may be at risk if the bridging finance is not repaid in accordance with the agreement.
What is an exit strategy?
An exit strategy is the planned method of repaying the bridging finance at the end of the agreed term. This could include a sale, refinance or another suitable source of funds.
How quickly can bridging finance be arranged?
Timescales vary, but bridging finance can often progress quickly where the required information, valuation, legal work and security arrangements are in place.
What does bridging finance cost?
Bridging finance costs are assessed individually and may include interest, arrangement fees, valuation fees and legal costs. The applicable rate and charges will depend on the transaction and finance arrangement.
Property or assets used as security may be at risk if the bridging finance is not repaid in accordance with the agreement.
What information will I need for a bridging finance enquiry?
Initial information will normally include the amount required, purpose of the bridging finance, details and value of the proposed security and your intended repayment or exit strategy. Further information may be required depending on the transaction.

Will Versus Finance carry out an income and expenditure assessment?
Where required, and depending on the finance product, Versus Finance may review your income, expenditure and existing commitments as part of assessing affordability.
What bank statements will I need to provide?
We normally require the latest three months of statements for relevant accounts, including personal current accounts, business accounts, savings accounts and e-money accounts where applicable. Further statements may be requested where required.

Where income comes from self-employment or a business, we may request accounts, business bank statements and other financial information to help assess the application.

Other Questions
What fees and charges may apply when arranging finance?
An arrangement fee may apply. For personal and business finance, this is typically 3% of the total finance amount, subject to a minimum fee of £295.
Full details are set out in our Terms of Business.
What interest rate will I pay?
The interest rate will depend on the product, borrowing amount, term, security, your circumstances, affordability and credit history.
Any estimate is indicative only. The final rate, repayments, fees and total amount payable will be explained before you sign an agreement.
When are fees payable, and does Versus receive commission?
When the fee is due
The fee becomes payable after the finance has been formally approved and you sign the relevant agreement.
Unless Versus confirms otherwise in writing, the fee remains payable if you subsequently decide not to complete the transaction or draw the funds.
Commission
Versus may receive commission or other remuneration from a finance provider, insurer or introduced business.
Where required or relevant, the nature or amount will be disclosed to you in writing. Any commission is separate from the arrangement fee payable by you.

Can an arrangement fee be reduced or waived?
Versus may reduce or waive all or part of the fee at its sole discretion.
Any reduction or waiver must be confirmed in writing and will apply only to the named client and transaction.
Can someone else pay my arrangement fee?
A payment from a third party may be accepted, subject to the required identity and compliance checks.
Please contact Versus before arranging the payment.
Can separate third-party fees or costs apply?
A finance provider, valuer, Jersey advocate or solicitor, insurer or another third party may charge separate fees under its own terms.
